The Honest Comparison
| Passive system | Active system (fan) | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Pipe relies on natural stack effect | Fan creates reliable suction |
| Reduction | Modest — often insufficient alone | Proven below 200 Bq/m³, typically <75 |
| Cost | Lower upfront | $1,800+ installed |
| Our take | Rarely enough in Calgary's geology | What we install & guarantee |
Alberta's code rough-in is a passive starting point. In Calgary's high-radon geology, finishing it as an active system is what reliably gets you below the action level.
