That Capped Pipe in Your Basement
Since 2015, Alberta's building code has required a radon rough-in — typically a capped pipe stubbed through the basement slab. It's not a working system; it's the starting point for one.
What to do
- Test first — live in the home a while, then run a 91-day test
- If it's high, we finish the system — fan + venting on your existing rough-in, usually the cheapest mitigation you'll ever buy
- Building new? — ask your builder about going beyond the minimum rough-in
A rough-in finish is typically faster and cheaper than a from-scratch install — often at the low end of our $1,800+ range.
Finish Your Rough-In
The cheapest mitigation is the one that's half-built already.
